Cambodia School WASH Project

Our School WASH program aims to improve the health of students through a comprehensive project that addresses the three essential components of safe drinking water, latrines (toilets) and hand washing.

Our School WASH program is implemented in the province of Svay Reing in Cambodia.  Each School has a water source, yet research found that 90% of the children drink water direct from a well or pond with no water treatment. Most of the schools have latrines, yet 80% of the schools do not have enough latrines to meet the needs of the school children.

The project focuses on behavior change regarding water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) practices in schools, community and families.  The project includes the:

1. The construction of a school Bio-Sand filter which treats water and produces up to 180 - 200 liters of clean water per hour.

2. A hand washing station and

3. A latrine block with 6 or 4 toilets according to the number of children, with disable access is also constructed to improve hygiene and sanitation.

4. Education on hygiene education to change behavior at school and in the home

The local School and Churches work together with Neverthirst’s local partner to complete the project. The Local Church builds relationship with the School community through leading the hygiene education training and follow up monitoring with the School leadership.  This provides an opportunity for the local Church to serve and demonstrate the love of Christ in word and deed.

Each School WASH project provides education, safe drinking water, latrines (toilets) and a hand washing station to on average 600 students per school.

The local School also contributes and raises the money to build the roof over the Water treatment (bio-sand filter). The Church and the School establish a project committee and are responsible for the on-going maintenance and purchasing soap each month.

Our goal is to complete 20 School WASH projects in 20 Schools, providing safe drinking water, toilets, hand washing stations and education to an estimated 12,000 students across 20 schools in rural Cambodia.

You can fund a whole School WASH project or part fund. We will send you a complete report of the project with GPS location, photos and stories of your impact.

Thank you for your support in improving health for students through water, hygiene, sanitation and education and for empowering the local Church to love, serve and reach their community.
